about

Cathy Kubany Architect is an emergent practice following the closure of the Government Architect's Office in 2016 as it transitioned into a strategic advisory arm of the Department of Planning.

Cathy is a skilled and respected architect with over 30 years experience working on a range of public building types and complexities within the Government Architects Office as well as independent residential work and community consultation.

Her experience ranges from client liason and presentations, feasibilities, brief development, masterplanning, preparation of concept designs, detailed design, construction documentation and site inspections in construction phase.

Public projects have included court houses, police stations, juvenile justice centres, schools, TAFE projects, mental health and social housing design and documentation. These have often been  subject to constrained budgets requiring innovative means to achieve our client's desired outcomes.

Our practice is passionate about engaging with all our clients to better understand their needs while working collaboratively to seek innovative responses to these. We highly value the contribution our buildings make to the public domain and public amenity.

We have a strong belief in the importance of fully integrated landscape and the environmental interface of all our projects.
The same level of committment and exploration is applied to all projects regardless of complexity or scale.

Our projects benefit from collaborative teamwork and mentoring to achieve improved design outcomes for all stakeholders.

The years preceding the closure of GAO Cathy was fortunate to lead several education projects exploring new ways of providing physical environments to support developing contemporary pedagogy. She has held membership with CEFPI (no
w Learning Environments Australasia).

Cathy has a demonstrated committment to planning and advocating for public benefit within her locality. She is a member of the Church Point Aesthetics Advisory Group established by Northern Beaches Council and is a Committee member of Friends of Currawong.

The quality of Cathy’s work has established design benchmarks for several building types and has been recognized by industry awards.
